It's not a matter of which division, it all has to do with the standings. The 4 division winners in each conference are ranked 1 through 4, then two wild cards fill out 5 and 6. 1 and 2 get a bye (week off), 3 plays 6 and 4 plays 5. In any case, it is possible for teams in the same division to meet in the playoffs. To put it another way, all of the playoff games in each conference could be teams in the same division, or they could be different. Only the Superbowl guarantees the different conference matchup.
