The Pennant is when a team wins in their league, and goes on to play in the World Series. Years ago there were no divisions in each league, and the team with the best record, and finished first won the pennant. Now there are three divisions in each league. The Playoffs refer to the games played among the three division winners, and a wild card team (best record of a second place team) to decide who will be the pennant winner, and go on to play in the World Series.
