I really didn't see a lot of value in the previous answer that "if you want to walk, don't waste your money". There are 34 million runners in the US, but 38 million walkers and there are a lot of people who do races for health and travel. Some even do it for speed (and finish faster than a lot of the ones who run).
Someone else on Answers.com suggested that an average marathon time for men is 4.5 hours and women is 5 hours, so anything under that would be good.
Based on scaled comparisons for walkers vs runners on the world records, that would translate to a 6:20 marathon for men or 7:20 for women. There are a lot of walker friendly races like the Mayor's Marathon in Anchorage or the Honolulu Marathon (with 9 hour limits or greater).

∙ 8y agoIt depends on how old you are, your gender and how in shape you are.
As a sophomore girl in high school, I run a 6:00 mile, which is not race winning but is pretty respectable.
For a high school boy a respectable time would be sometime around five to five and a half minutes.
And for varsity or Olympic 4:20-5min is perfect. Average human range in 5-8min

∙ 11y agoIt depends on the runner, I'd say about 1:30-1:45 for someone who's trained and fast. I've seen the really fast ones (cough...Kenyans) do it in a little over an hour which for me is too insane to even comprehend.

∙ 15y agoThe average finishing time for men is about 4 and a half hours, for women about 5 hours. So anything under those times would be considered better than average.

It depends on how fast you run. I can't answer that until I know how fast you run.
Depends how fast you run, you'd imagine.Usain Bolt at full speed would do a half marathon in less than an hour.If you walk it, you'd do it in about 2-2.25 hours. It depends on how fast you 'run', if at all.So I'd go for about 1.5-2 hours.
that runner will run at 13 MPH
now heres the tricky part. time ticks faster. You go fast. Cars go fast to! to get to the finish you had to run fast ad you could!
no
The Horse by a long shot. the cheeta may be fast for a very short period but it has no staying power.

NOOO.
Never during a marathon. Your body does not have the ability to metabolize fats into energy during the time it takes to run a marathon.
How would a person illegally run a marathon? Assuming he did not get money for doing so, why worry about it? To qualify for the Boston Marathon, you have to qualify in a marathon that is sanctioned by the Boston Marathon Association. Once you have qualified, you may enter the Boston Marathon. It is the only one that requires a qualifying time in order to enter. Many runners train hard to make the qualification time and are frustrated if someone jumps in the course and runs it illegally. There is no money involved, just hard, honest training.
You should be able to jog / walk a marathon if you have no major medical problems ..... running one or finishing in any kind of decent time would require lots of training unless you are already a marathon conditioned athlete.
