1) Jonathan Edwards, Great Britain - the world record holder at 18.29 meters done at a meet in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1995. He also has 3 other jumps over 18 meters and has jumped a wind-aided 18.47 (wind was clocked at 2.4 meters per second).
2) Kenny Harrison, United States - jumped 18.09 at the 1996 Games in Atlanta, winning the gold medal. Incredibly, the jump was made into a slight headwind measured at 0.4 meters per second. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Both Willie Banks and Mike Conley of the USA have jumped over 18m with wind assistance. Banks was the first athlete to do so in 1988 (18.06 and 18.20) and Conley won the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona with 18.17.
