You don't "Play" Gymnastics, you "Do" Gymnastics. And anyways, You learn how to do stuff on beam, vault, bars, and my personal favorite, floor. Gymnastics takes a lot of hard word and dedication, and it takes a lot of time. You can also get hurt easily and maybe even die. It's probably tougher than any other sport out there. However, this is coming from a 13 year old girl... but still.

Gymnastics is very difficult to learn. Most beginner classes will began with building strength and flexibility, and learning basic tricks on trampolines or other equipment with a spotter (Gymnastics coach) to assure they don't get hurt, whereas intermediate classes will start to learn more difficult tricks with the floor, beam, bars, ect.

Gymnastics is different for men and women; For men: there are six events that all require special skills. These are: rings, horizontal bar, pommel horse, floor, vault and parrellel bars.. at competitions each athlete will do a routine he has learned for that event. a panel of judges will then mark him on his difficulty (called the A score) and technique (called the B score). These are then combined giving each athlete a score. For women: basically the same accept with only four events: uneven bars, beam, vault and floor.

In Women's Artistic Gymnastics, there are 4 events: Floor, Beam, Vault, and Bars.

Floor: The tumbling and dancing happens here. The gymnast starts in one corner of the floor and tumbles across to the other, and adds some dance moves into the routine as well. They also do split jumps and other floor skills. They don't always have to run from corner to corner, sometimes they run straight across and do their skills.

Beam: The gymnasts do skills on a 4 inch beam. They do Jumps, backflips and frontflips, handstands, aerials, and it ususally ends in a dismount which involves a series of flips to get off of the beam.

Vault: The gymnast runs down a "track" to a springboard which is in front of the vault table. They jump on the springboard and do a flip over the vault table. There are lots of different flips the gymnast can do, but the goal is to push themselves over the vault table and stick the landing on the other side.

Bars. The bars have one low bar, and one high bar. Gymnasts move from bar to bar doing different skills and by swinging themselves around the bars. It ususally lands in a dismount from the high bar consisting of flyaways.

First of all gymnastics isn't played, it's done. You do gymnastics, you don't play it. And secondly, people do gymnastics all over the world. I believe every continent except Antartica.
