Any kind of lift is a defensive shot in badminton as it gives your opponents the opportunity to play a smash or other attacking shot.
A shot made at the net to the other side close to the net. Net shots are most effective when it is tight (not high above and not landing too far). Net shots should land as close to the net as possible to make it harder to return.
A hairpin is a deceptive shot used in badminton, typically executed near the net. It involves hitting the shuttlecock with a quick, soft motion, causing it to travel just over the net and drop sharply, making it difficult for the opponent to return. This shot is effective for surprising opponents and can be used to change the pace of the rally. Mastering the hairpin requires good control and timing, as well as an understanding of the opponent's positioning.

A shot that just clears the net refers to a stroke in sports like tennis or badminton where the ball or shuttlecock barely passes over the net, often landing just inside the opponent's court. This type of shot is typically aimed to be just high enough to avoid the net while being low enough to make it difficult for the opponent to return. It can be an effective tactic to catch opponents off-guard or to exploit openings in their defense.
Clear- Far shot to force the player to the back of the net. Smash- Fast, downward shot. Usually involves jumping into the air. Overhand- A simple, forward movement of the racket over your head to hit the birdie. Backhand- Self-explanatory. Drop Shot- Usually done after a clear, where you tap the birdie just over the net.
