NFL cities offer bids for future Super Bowls, which are decided by the league's ownership. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had been hoping for years to bring a Super Bowl to North Texas, but he realized the area needed a mega-sized indoor arena to pull it off. As a result, he spearheaded the construction of Cowboys Stadium, which cost more than a billion dollars. It can seat as many as 100,000 under special conditions and has a retractable roof, which makes it the largest domed stadium in the world. Cowboys Stadium has hosted many other major events, including the NBA All-Star Game and the Cotton Bowl. It will host the Final Four in 2014.

The NFL owners voted in May 2007 to hold Super Bowl XLV at Cowboys Stadium in February 2011.
