The Olympics are a legacy of the ancient Greeks because it was they who founded such competitions. Ancient Greek culture had several different Olympic-style athletic competitions, held at different times of year, sometimes at several-year intervals. Even members of nation-states at war with one another might participate in such games.

To be frank, they had nothing to do with the Olympics, which were created by the Greeks.
Originally the reason the Greeks founded the Olympics was to have a "family reunion". At the time, Ancient Greeks were scattered from Spain to North Africa, and from Ionia to Italy. This was a way to unite themselves every 4 years. Eventually it turned into a "which colony is the best" competition, and the model that we have today.
Well, the Greeks loved competitions. So they made up a game called the Olympics, which modernized to the sports we have today. The Olympics were not the only competition in Ancient Greece, but the most popular.
We both have the Olympics (Ancient Greeks made it)We both have democracy (Ancient Greeks made this as well)
The ancient Greeks held the Olympics in Athens, Greece. Nowadays, I don't know.
