That is an excellent question and in doing research, unless I have fouled up which is entirely possible, all of the 22 players, as of 6/14/07, who have hit between 400 and 500 home runs have had at least one season of 30+ home runs.
The first in MLB was Hank Aaron who got his 3000th base hit on May 17, 1970. He had 569 career home runs when he got his 3000th. Willie Mays quickly followed suit, getting his 3000th base hit on July 18, 1970. He had 620 home runs when he got his 3000th. Through the 2009 season, Eddie Murray and Rafael Palmeiro are the only two players besides Aaron and Mays to be in the 500 HR/3000 hit club.
Babe Ruth, Ted Williams & Jimmie Foxx
In 1961, Red Witt played in 9 games, all for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and batting in all of them. He had 2 at bats, getting 1 hit, for a .500 batting average, with 1 sacrifice hit, 0 sacrifice flies, and 0 runs batted in. He was walked 0 times. He struck out 0 times. He hit 1 double, 0 triples, and 0 home runs.
As of the August 18, 2010, only Albert Pujols (397 home runs) and Alex Rodriguez (604 home runs) are on pace to break Barry Bonds home run record. However, the Nationals signed the first overall pick of the 2010 draft in Bryce Harper, and he is the most hyped power hitter in decades. As a 16 year old, Bryce hit a 500+ foot home run in the stadium of the Tampa Bay Rays during a home run contest, the furthest home run ever hit in the stadium. At just over 17 years old, this kid could easily break the home run record if his game translates into the pros.
