Babe Ruth was the first player to hit 500 home runs (08-11-1929) but one person could not be conssidered a club. On September 24, 1940 Jimmie Foxx hit his 500th home run, and created the 500 Home Run Club.

The first two members of the 500 Home Run Club Ruth, and Foxx would be co-founders of the 500 home run club. Mel Ott joined the club on 08-01-1945.

Today. there are 23 members of the 500 Home Run Club, and the number of members are growing fast.
