The first game was actually in Scotland. Also the first game was England v.s. Scotland
Football in general can be traced by over 900 years to Medieval Shrovetide football. However, the 'Laws of the game' for Assosiation football (Soccer) were coded by the Football Association in 1863. The first ever soccer match was played on Barnes common at Mortlake, London on 19th December 1863 between Barnes football club and Richmond football club. The Barnes club was captained by E.C. Morley who founded the Barnes club and wrote the 'Laws of the Game' for and behalf of the Football Association. The purpose of the game was to test the new code. The game ended 0-0.
The first of 5 experimental international association football (Soccer) matches were played between a team of Army offices representing England and a team of London based Scottish players representing Scotland. The games were played between 5th March 1872 and 24th February 1872 at the Oval, London. The first game ended with a 1-1 draw with Scotland scoring the first unofficial international goal. The first official international game was played between Scotland vs. England on 30th November 1872 (St Andrews day in Scotland). The game took place at the West of Scotland Cricket Club, Glasgow. The game ended with a 0-0 draw.

it was played when you had to make a ball intohoop
"if you are talking about AFL football then Afl is older then soccer The first game if soccer was played in 1872, November 30th The first game of football was played in 1858, August 7th" WRONG. The dates are right, officially, but the actual game of Association Football (Soccer) is far older, the OFFICIAL rules were made during this period; and although the first official game of American Football was played "first", American Football is actually a VARIATION of Association Football AND Rugby Football. So how can it be OLDER if it's based on Association Football? Foolish child.
Soccer was known and played before Basketball. At first the game was said to involve elements of American Football, Soccer and Hockey but these were just a means to describing the new game to outsiders, so Soccer ball was used until the first Basketball was manufactured in 1894.
