In the modern Olympics, there are five forms of fighting events: Wrestling (both Greco-Roman and freestyle), boxing, fencing, judo and Taekwondo. Most (if not all) of these have divisions for weight class and both male and female competitors.

The ancient Olympics lacked most of these, having only boxing, wrestling, and pankrion, a primitive form of Martial Arts that combined the two sports. Pankrion had few rules- basically only eye gouging and biting were prohibited.

There was continual warfare between the hundreds of city-states, interrupted by periods of fighting other peoples and invaders. Usually these were events between two cities, or two groups of cities, or repelling the Persian invasion, or trying to avoid the inevitable takeover by Rome.

There was continuous dispute and fighting between different Greek city states, often between individual and often between different alliances of cities. Rather like today's world where there is always confrontation and fighting somewhere in the world. That's human beings.
