This is a tough question as it is filled with opinion and questions. The IIHF had a ceremony 2008 where they presented the all century team chosen by an expert panel.
The players were:
Vladislav Tretjak, Russia
Vjatjeslav Fetisov, Russia
Börje Salming, Sweden
Valerij Charmalov, Russia
Sergej Makarov, Russia
Wayne Gretzky, Canada
Many would disagree however as Salming, Makarov and Fetisov all played in the NHL (the pinnacle of pro hockey) and only one of which made any top 100 NHL player lists. That player is salming coming in at an impressive #74 behind Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr (the greatest defenceman of all time, Gordie Howe (Mr. Hockey), Maurice Richard and many others. Gretzky however is UNDOUBTEDLY the greatest player of all time. If you still are unsure, check around some other web sites and I'm sure you will form a more well rounded opinion.

These also happen to be the best hockey players ever. I would say that in order, Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Gordie Howe, and Maurice Richard. There's not too many other players that will be considered by anyone as the best player ever (or best candian player).

Only 1% of the kids who play hockey will ever play in the NHL.
No, not during a game, but players has died from injuries suffered on ice.
there has never been a female nhl players. There has been I believe on two occasions a female goalie invited to camp, perhaps played in preseason...but both times alot of goals were allowed and from what I understand never a real interest in signing either of them to contracts.
