Ernie Johnson Jr., who currently works for TBS, did not play professional baseball -- but his father did. Ernie Johnson Sr played nine seasons from 1950-59 for the Boston and Milwaukee Braves and the Baltimore Orioles. Johnson Sr. signed with the Braves in 1942, but served three years in the US Marine Corps during World War II before beginning his pro baseball career in 1946. He spent four seasons in the minor leagues before reaching the majors. Following his playing days he followed the Braves to Atlanta, where he worked for 38 years as a radio and TV broadcaster for the team from 1962 to 1999. During a 10/13/2008 TBS broadcast of the ALCS, Johnson Jr. said his father once gave up a home run to Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer Ted Williams during a pre-season exhibition game at Fenway Park.
