The Yankees and one of three National League teams would have appeared in the World Series at one time or another. Most resent The Yankees played the Mets in the 2000 World Series. Before 1958, the Yankees could have played the Dodgers, or the Giants.
No. They cannot play each other in the World Series as both teams are in the National League.
The cardinals and yankess have played each other in nine world series games with the cardinals beating them 5 of 9 times.
MLB played a best of 9 World Series in 1903, 1919, 1920, and 1921. Other than those four seasons, all World Series have been a best of 7 format.
The last time a day game was played in the World Series on a day other than Saturday and Sunday was Game 5 of the 1972 World Series (Cincinnati at Oakland), which was played on a Friday afternoon. The last World Series day game period was game 6 of the 1987 World Series, St. Louis at Minnesota.
My Uncle from St. Louis caught a foul ball from the 1982 World Series. His baseball has the 1982 World Series stamp on the baseball with a star stamp above the Rawlings logo. The 1982 World Series baseball is typically sold for more than other World Series baseballs. The 1982 World Series baseball could easily fetch up to $100 on eBay. I have not seen the stamp used on other game used World Series baseballs around that era. This is a very unique ball. IMO the value is easily over twice that of a non game used 1982 World Series baseball. Other 80's World Series baseballs would be hard to determine if they are actually game used. Since, the 1982 World Series had used a special stamp; these balls are easy to verify. Unless someone makes the star stamp the same size and stamped it to look similar. But, this would be costly to make a fake. Anyway, in my professional opinion, the baseball should sell for $250-$500.
Yankees StadiumNo longer in existence the New York Yankees, Yankees Stadium had the most World series games played. A Total of 39 World Series was played there. The Yankees won 26 World Championships of the 39 played there. No other Major League Stadium even comes close to that.
I am currently getting the info, but for now, I just know Bengie Molina.
The team the Yankees played was the Pittsburgh Pirates.......last time I checked Pittsburgh was NOT in New York......a dumb question indeed.
Three sets of brothers have played against each other in a World Series ... 1) Doc Johnston of the Cleveland Indians and Jimmy Johnston of the Brooklyn Robins in the 1920 World Series. 2) Bob Muesel of the New York Yankees and Irish Muesel of the New York Giants in the 1921, 1922, and 1923 World Series. 3) Clete Boyer of the New York Yankees and Ken Boyer of the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1964 World Series.
The Chicago Cubs won their second World Series in a row...and their last.
Baseball mega stars Honus Wagner and Ty Cobb met once in the 1909 World Series. Wagner played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Ty Cobb for the Detroit Tigers. The Pirates won the World Series that year.
For the only time, baseball icons Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner faced each other in the 1909 World Series. Although they played a combined 27 more years in baseball, they never played against each other.
