1948
I don't know that history has recorded the first woman to compete in the Olympics. History has recorded that the first woman to win a gold medal was Charlotte Cooper of Great Britain who won gold in ladies singles tennis in the 1900 Olympics in Paris. The 1900 Olympics were the second Olympics of the modern era and the first that women were allowed to compete in. Women were not allowed to compete in the first modern Olympics held in Greece in 1896.

The first female gymnastics teams were invited to compete in 1928. It is unknown who the first female gymnast is.
While only men were allowed o compete, all could watch even the ancient olympics. Who was first woman can't be determined.
There were no women's events in the 1896 Olympic Games because women were not allowed to compete. Women were first allowed to compete in the Olympics starting with the 1900 Games and women's athletics (Track and Field) did not begin until the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. The first woman to win the 100 meter dash in the Olympics was Elizabeth Robinson of the United States in a time of 12.2 seconds.
