Drew Bledsoe was injured during the Patriots' Week 2 game against the New York Jets on September 23rd, 2001. Bledsoe was hit by Jets linebacker Mo Lewis and was replaced by Tom Brady for the remainder of the game. Bledsoe was diagnosed with a sheared blood vessel in his chest, which required surgery and kept him out of the lineup for the rest of the 2001 season.
