Actually its Lacrosse. By a long shot. professional lacrosse players make 10-30 thousand a year. pretty crappy pay for being a pro. most of them have a second or third job to support themselves.
Next is the WNBA with the mvp making a maximum 87k

∙ 13y agoThe least popular sports tend to pay the least. For example, the MLS Soccer League, the main soccer league in America, is becoming very un-popular, and salaries aren't very high at all for the players.

∙ 11y agoActually, if your talking about football, Baseball, Basketball, and hockey, they are all relatively close in payroll, ranging from about $250 million down to about $500,000 yearly. So there is no distinction

Auto racing or golf
There is no cons to be a pofessional at anything. To be a professional, means, that you are well paid and you have a good job.
it depends. Its not like any other sport and you get paid no matter what. you can only get paid if you win.
The moment you're paid to participate you are no longer an amateur. So if an amateur sport, say kickball, wanted to become professional, they would need to establish a league that paid their players.
