The term soccer officially changed to football on December 16, 2004
For 1 thing, its football. and 2 - they have always worn jerseys
"if you are talking about AFL football then Afl is older then soccer The first game if soccer was played in 1872, November 30th The first game of football was played in 1858, August 7th" WRONG. The dates are right, officially, but the actual game of Association Football (Soccer) is far older, the OFFICIAL rules were made during this period; and although the first official game of American Football was played "first", American Football is actually a VARIATION of Association Football AND Rugby Football. So how can it be OLDER if it's based on Association Football? Foolish child.
It depends on what you mean by soccer vs football. If you are referring to the beautiful game. Most countries and territories call it football or something similar to the name. However, some countries say soccer(Association Football) because they have other sports or versions of football, such as American Football, Canadian Football, Australian Football, Gaelic Football and Rugby Football.
Association Football (aka Soccer) was invented in England.
Soccer --> Rugby --> American Football
Football/soccer originate from China, but officially it started in England
Soccer is said to have its origins in Rural England. Officially, Association Football, or Soccer, was established in 1872 by the English Football Association.
I am a lover of all sports and can appreciate that in most parts of the world they call Soccer Football. It really annoys me however that Fifa the governing body of Soccer is trying to change Australian sporting culture buy trying to make Aussies say football, when referring to Soccer. I encourage all Australians to keep calling Soccer Soccer. How dare they try and change the Australian vocabulary. In Australia the term football is used to describe Australian Rules football and Rugby League, not Soccer.
Australia has soccer as a sport. There is no other sport similar to soccer. The various codes of football played in Australia are nothing like soccer.
Football/Soccer.
Australia has both football and soccer, and they are two distinctly different sports.
Football means soccer everywhere except the US, Canada and Australia.

No. In Australia, the term "Football" [colloquially "footy"], mainly refers to the Australian football game, also called, "Aussie Rules". Even in the two states that play much more rugby than Australian football, they do not reference soccer with the word 'football' - the 150+ year tradition within Australia has therefore long been to be speaking of either Australian football or one of the rugby codes - 'league or union' when football is mentioned. The only change that has occurred is that the major soccer / "association football" league in Australia has changed its own lead name from "Soccer" to include the word "Football", but certainly, neither the general populous, nor the culture as a whole refers to soccer by the term football. The chief governing body of Australian Football has long been named, "The Australian Football League". The true name of the soccer brand of football, by the way, is actually "Association Football".
Futball is another word for what is known as football in Europe, or soccer in the United States. Football is soccer in the USA etc, or AFL in Australia.
