A over head serve or over hand serve is where you toss the ball above your head and hit it. normally if you are right handed you want to toss the ball in the air with your left hand and take a step with your left foot. Then hit the ball with your open right hand (on the palm area) and flick your wrist for top spin.

AN over hand serve is when the ball is usually thrown then hit while staying above the servers head, the hand is carried back and over the head to hit the ball. AN under hand serve is when a player holds the ball out, and hits the bottom of the ball with the other hand, this motion would look like and regular underhand toss. The overhand serve is used more at the start of the high school level all the way to the professional level. An underhand serve is very beginner.
"Underhand" refers to a type of serve, and is the opposite of "overhand". An underhand serve is when the server holds the ball in front of them, at the height of their hip, and hits the ball out of their hand using their opposite fist or palm in order to serve. Meanwhile, an overhand serve is when the server tosses the ball in the air, over their head, in front of them, and uses their other hand to hit the ball in the air and over the net for a serve.
you through the ball up and hit it with the palm of your hand
When you serve the ball over the net to allow the game to begin, first (to do an over-head serve) you would "toss" the ball in the air to give your hand time to smack/hit the ball.
There is the over-hand serve and the under-handserve. The over-hand is when you hit the volleyball with your palm or fist over your head. The under-hand is when you hit the volleyball with your palm or fist under your head. The point of both of the serves are to get the ball over the net and in between the out lines.
basically it is just keeping the bal in the air. You fold your hands by making a fist and then clapping your other hand over it. You hit casually that way. When you serve, you throw up the ball and hit it wit the palm of your hand. That's upper serve. Lower serve you hold the ball in one hand, and with the other hit the underside of the ball with your fist. There are basically no penalties that I know of. You just get the ball over the net and keep it up.

The underhand serve is a good serve for beginners to use. It is simply another way of getting the ball over the net. The ball is held in one hand and hit by the heel of the other hand. The underhand is the serve that is generally not as effective as the overhand serve.
