It was formed by eleven teams in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association, with the league changing its name to the National Football League in 1922.
The league is made up of six teams from the Western United States.
Four National Football League teams have never made a Super Bowl appearance. They are the Cleveland Browns, the Detroit Lions, the Houston Texans and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
It wasn't invented it was founded silly... but it originated from the a.f.l. The american football league. in 1920 first team was the San Francisco 49 .they played college teams in playoffs, only them.and their whole team was Negroes so it made them special to the a.f.l and soon after more teams came to the a.f.l, too many to for one league. So they put some teams into the n.f.l.and some in the a.f.l and now american football league is now arena football league. enjoy the knowledge!!
The teams that made the final four were Kentucky, Duke, Syracuse, and University of Connecticut. Kentucky won against all of them and celebrated by drinking whiskey.
ARe u asking how many teams are in the NHL because there are 30 in all. there are 6 Canadian teams and 24 American teams.
No. Prior to 1969, there were no division in either league. Whichever team in each league had the best regular season record was the league's representative in the World Series. So, prior to 1969, only one team from each league made the playoffs and the only playoff round was the World Series. Starting in 1969, each league divided its teams into two divisions, the East and the West. The winners of the divisions would play each other in a playoff series (American/National League Championship Series) and the winner of that series would be the league's representative in the World Series. Two teams made the playoffs from each league and there were two rounds in the playoffs. Starting in 1994, each league was divided into three divisions, the East, Central, and West. The winners of each division would make the playoffs along with the one non division winner that had the best overall regular season record from each league. Four teams make the playoffs from each league. This is currently how the playoffs are done in MLB. There are three rounds in the playoffs, the American/National League Divisional Series, American/National League Championship Series, and the World Series.
2008 is the first year, since teams began being seeded in 1979, that four #1 seeds made the Final Four. Those teams are North Carolina, Kansas, Memphis and UCLA.
The National Conference of the NFL (NFC) is made up of teams from the original National Football League, going back to 1922. Therefore (including the 3 teams that switched conferences, see below) the oldest teams in pro football are all in the NFC. The American Conference (AFC) is made up of teams from the original American Football League, an "upstart" football league created in 1960 to challenge the old NFL. In 1967, the leagues merged, but because the NFL had 16 teams at the time, and the AFL only 10, 3 teams from the NFL moved to the AFC to make the conferences balance at 13-13. They were the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, and Baltimore (now Indianapolis) Colts. Since then, new expansion teams have been arbitrarily added to both conferences that have no history or connection with either league, and the Seattle Seahawks transferred to the NFC from the AFC to again rebalance the two conferences. There are now 32 teams in the league, 16 in each conference.

Some acronyms for U.S. Pro Soccer would include the USSF which stands for the United States Soccer Federation and there are also three professional soccer league divisions under the United States Soccer Federation. Division I, the strongest and highest division, is made up of teams from MLS or Major League Soccer. Division II is made up of teams from the NASL or the North American Soccer League. Division III, the weakest and lowest division, is made up of teams from the USL Pro, or United Soccer Leagues Professional Division.
