I am debating this question myself as i am a high school football player in westernPennsylvania but i can tell you that the DNA is NOT the right choice. I am a sophomore quarterback who does not get hit as much as our running back obviously and i suffered from not 1 but 2 concussions this season while using the DNA. At the time when it first came out, yes it may have been one of the safer helmets, but not with the new technology being discovered for protection of your head. I would choose between the ion 4D and the revolution speed. i believe that the revolution speed has a better look to it but in all honesty, after you have suffered from multiple concussions... looks are not the most important thing when looking for a helmet to wear. Of the reviews I have read about both of the helmets it seems like they are all mixed opinions, some saying the ion 4D is safer more comfortable and some saying the revolution speed is much more comfortable and more protective.

Should offensive linemen wear helmet visors?
Offensive lineman should not be required to wear visors because many of them have a very large cage. Justin Tuck uses a helmet (I think it's an ION 4D or DNA) that has more bars than I've seen on any other helmet.

The Recruit YFS is an old, discontinued Schutt helmet which means you probably can only find them used. It was replaced with the Schutt DNA Recruit a couple years ago.The ION 4D is Shutt's top of the line helmet. It offers great protection, but isn't cheep. Also, because of it's weight, it's not recommended for players younger than 12.If you are buying for a young player, I recommend not the Recruit YFS, but the Schutt DNA Recruit. Easy answer: POC Skull Comp. As I ski racer, I know what kind of requirements needed to protect my noggin. Previously had Uvex, which sucked. Got a concussion with it, shocks broke in it. I have to say Leedom is not very into what the top racers are wearing for helmets. Don't go with leedom. Boeri competition is a good helmet as well. Shred is probably the number 2 best helmet with Briko and Boeri tailing behind it. POC is completely on top with safety.

If you are looking for a helmet, READ ALL OF THIS. There are currently 6. In order by the best in my opinion, there is the Schutt Air XP, the Ion 4D, DNA, Riddel, Adams and the Revolution. The reason the Air XP is first is because it has great protection and has an awesome facemask and is built like a top-line helmet. Chris Cooley and Justin Tuck wear this helmet. The Ion 4D for the same reasons of the Air XP. It is worn by LaDainian Tomlinson and a lot more that I don't know the names of. The DNA is underrated. It is just short of the protection of the Ion and the Air XP, is built great and has an awesome facemask. I don't know anyone who wears it but don't make that make you resist. The Riddel is not bad. Yeah, it nothing special, but I guess you can say it bends but it doesn't break. I played with it in my season and it got scratched a lot. But, I liked it because my coached liked the sctraches and said it made me look tough. And by the way I used my helmet a lot carrying the ball. It is used by I would say 40% of the NFL. THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS HELMET. The Adams is pretty much the same thing as the Riddel. People disagree with me on the Revolution. They say is prevents concussions 38% or something like that more than the DNA but it doesn't. In fact, the two kids on my team that had the Revo got a concussion in the first 3 games they played. The pads are made of a material that's like a brick when it's cold, and like a marshmellow when it's hot. And they say that it's the softest helmet but guess what, it's too soft. 90% of the time when a helmet comes off, it's a Revo. This would be a last resort helmet in my opinion. It is used by about 25% of the NFL I would say but those players don't know the real facts. Hope that I helped.
