It is essential to have your own pair of ice skates. A figure skating dress (if you are a female) though it is not essential. For your ice skates, buy:
1. An ice skating bag
2. A cloth material pair of blade protectors
3. An old towel to wipe after use to prevent RUST!
If you are a female and you don't have a dress wear leggings. They hug to your legs to give you the flexibility you need. There's no point going in jeans because they are too rigid to move around in. For men I would recommend jogging bottoms or something loose and baggy to wear.
