Well, I am a softball player, so I know this question. The reason that a softball got the name softball is because, you may not know it, but inside of a softballs hard outer layer, is is soft and squishy. You should try it sometime. Why are they wanting to do away with softball in the oylmpics?
I heard that there were not enough countries who had softball teams to have an adequate competition. Softball is not as big around the world as it is in the US and as such there aren't a lot ofOlympics level teams. T he sport can re-petition the Olympics to get the game reinstated if it addresses these issues. Softball needs to cultivate grassroots leagues to build up athletes in many countries to field competitors at Olympic levels.
What is to come in the future for softball?
Sadly, softball has been eliminated from the 2012 Olympics so the future doesn't look bright, even though there are thousands of young girls in many different countries participating in the sport. Softball can try to put in a bid for the 2016 Olympics where hopefully the olympic comittee will place them in.

There should be 9 on one team but you need 2 teams to play so for a game there would have to be 18 people for pitcher, catcher, 1st, 2nd and 3rd baseman, shortstop, Left right and center field.
