According to the Hockey Canada website there are over 500,000 kids of varying ages registered to play hockey in Canada. Of course, there are many more who play hockey in local areas but don't necessarily register with official organizations. For example, there are several dozen kids in my little town who play on the local rink but are not part of Hockey Canada.
I have read in my history book that in earlier times, hockey used to be played with 60-100 players on each side! So you can do so today also. There is also an Indian sport- Kabadi that such a large group can play.
Yes.
Kids should not play tackle football unless they are trained. The key is proper training, education, equipment and facilities. Most sports can be safe for kids if handled properly, even tackle football. Hockey is another unless properly trained you should not play unless supervised professionally. Rugby (usually European sport) should not be played AT ALL without been trained and without professional supervision !
Kids should be allowed to play simply because they are kids and playing is part of being a kid.
your son should really be resting ,
