At first, Lenin wanted a society where the factories and land would be owned by a central government, i.e., socialism. Eventually the factories would not so much be "owned" by anyone; they would just be operated by the workers and peasant farmers of the proletariat according to the philosophies of Karl Marx on how true communism would be in the future. That would not yet be possible until after a period of socialism where a strong government would own the factories and land until such time as the people stopped working for individual profit and began working for the common good of the society as a whole.
