The ice on a hockey rink is approximately 3/4" thick. The thicker it is, the slower is is to skate, and that is not good.
I think the outside ice thickness should be between 1" to 3" inches.

They are painted onto the floor. Then the floor is covered with ice. Because the lines are under the ice, instead of part of the ice, resurfacing the ice won't remove the lines.
