There wasn't one person who moved from union to create a Rugby League. It was a group of Northern England clubs who, dissatisfied with the fact that they could not pay players to say with their clubs and the union code did not allow professionally paid players broke away from the union code and formed the Rugby League. The revolt it is claimed was headed up by Hull (Hull Kingston Rovers) who still in operation today

The recognition for starting the game of Rugby is afforded to William Web Ellis a 15 year old pupil of Rugby School Warwickshire England who playing football (soccer) picked up the ball which was allowed in those days and instead of retreating BACK toward his own team to make a pass ran forward carrying the ball.
