The FIFA World Cup Trophy as we know it today has been given to the World Cup victor since 1974. This trophy was designed by an Italian artist: Silvio Gazzaniga and replaced the July Rimet trophy, which was awarded to the victors in previous World Cup championships.

Originally called "Victory", the Jules Rimet trophy was awarded in every World Cup held between 1930 (the first year the tournament was held) and 1970. The cup was named after Jules Rimet, the originator of the World Cup and the longest serving president of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) at 33 years.

It was stolen before the 1966 World Cup but found a few day later under some bushes in London by a dog named Pickles. Pickles became a hero to all World Cup fans.

The trophy was again stolen in 1983 and has not been found since. Many speculate that the trophy has been melted down to it's gold and sold off but nobody is totally sure.
