What does 100 relay mean in Swimming terms?

There are many types of relays in swimming. The two main categories are Medley Relays and Freestyle Relays. A medley relay consists of 4 swimmers, with each swimmer doing a different stroke (Backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, freestyle). A freestyle relay consists of 4 swimmers, with each one swimming freestyle. A 100 relay would mean that each swimmer is going for 25 yards/meters. A 200 relay means 50 yards/meters each and so on. Sometimes relays are referred to as "four by (length)" relays. So a 400 yard freestyle relay consisting of four 100 yard freestyle legs would be called a "four by 100 yard free relay" and so on...and so on also swimming is an awsome sport!!!!!!

Who are the four swimmers that hold the world record in swimming for the womens four by one hundred meter free relay?

Why don't swimmers use the butterfly stroke in a freestyle event?

Swimmers don't use the butterfly because they can generally swim front crawl faster. The butterfly stroke is generally the second fastest of the four competitive strikes, but is not as efficient as front crawl or freestyle which is generally considered the fastest stroke. Also in a medley relay each swimmer is required to swim one of four different strokes (back, breast, fly and free), so two swimmers swimming butterfly would result in a disqualification. This would not apply to a freestyle relay.

What is the order of a medley relay?

In a medley relay, teams consist of four swimmers, each swimming a different stroke in a specific order: the first swimmer performs the backstroke, the second swimmer swims the breaststroke, the third swimmer does the butterfly, and the final swimmer competes in the freestyle. This sequence allows for a diverse showcase of swimming techniques and skills. The total distance for the relay typically adds up to 400 meters in competitions like the Olympics.
