i have been hit by a baseball and softball at 40 miles per hour and they hurt the same amout softballs are actually harder thenn baseballs but this is my opionion i have been playing softball since my freshman year and i use to play baseball when my brothers team needed people so i have been hit many times but softballs are worst.

A baseball bat is made of harder wood than softball bats which are also made of wood but is softer. The reason is because baseballs are harder than softballs so they need strong wood.

WELL IF YOU WATCH SPORT SCIENCE THAN IT TELLS YOU THAT SOFTBALL IS HARDER THAN BASEBALL. JENNIE FINCH BROKE BULLET PROOF GLASS BUT THE BASEBALL JUST BOUNCED OFF THE GLASS. The softball is not harder than a baseball it may be bigger but the softball is not that hard! i play softball and i know that a softball is not harder than a baseball because i got hit with a softball and it didn't hurt as much as the baseball.....and the people who were pitching pitched the exact same speed! so there u have it a baseball IS HARDER than a softball!!!! Yes it is a fact that baseballs are harder than softballs because they are wound tighter. It may be a smaller ball but it is solid. softballs are rubber with string wrapped around it so they fly almost 200 ft less than a baseball will.
Although Softballs are hard, they used to be an alternative to baseball for those who wanted a softer ball. It was big, soft, and squishy. The softball was then changed to a harder ball but the name stuck.
Yes! Some people think they aren't because they are called SOFTballs, but they definitely are!
The reason they call them softballs is because they have a soft core not because they are supposed to be soft on the outside.
One is thrown slow and the other is thrown fast.

Good quality baseballs and softballs are made completely differently. Inexpensive softballs are made of a cork and rubber mixture and a vinyl or other synthetic cover, then stitched with yarn. The vast majority of softballs, both slowpitch and fastpitch, are made of a solid polyurethane core and a leather cover stitched with nylon thread. The cover on better softballs is glued to the core before stitching. A fastpitch softball has raised seams and a slowpitch softball has flat seams. The core is the ball itself, not to be confused with COR, which stands for Coefficient of Restitution. Softballs are measure by two variables - COR and Compression. The higher of either number the harder the ball. The compression is simply the pounds per square inch required to compress the ball 1/4". The COR is the speed in which the ball goes from the compressed state back to its original round state (rebound).
