Do you mean play sweeper of perform the sweep move?
I will give you both answers:
To play the sweeper or sweep, you stay close to the goal or to the halfway line. As a player, when i play sweep i like to stay somewhere in the middle. You essencially just keep the ball away from goal, and are the last chance the team has when they suck so bad you are the last person left on defense and have to keep the ball out.
To perform the sweep move: you want to push with the stick on the ground at a pretty hard force and drag the ball forward or backwards. Make sure you don't actually screw up and end up flicking it, but that's why the sweep is considered tricky.
