Have confidence- just like a forward flip!

Careful, there... ONLY practice with a spotter, in a gym, with a 6" thick pad, until you can perform 5 or 6 in a row. THEN and only then, switch to a thinner pad, and practice without a spotter. While it IS all about confidence, it is very to break your neck performing this simple maneuver, which is also called a 'back handspring'.

P.s: A back FLIP would be the reverse of a forward flip.

How did they come up with the names of the gymnastics moves?

A lot of gymnastics move names are just saying what the gymnast is doing. For example, a "back tuck" (basically a back flip) is called such because you are doing a backwards flip in a tucked position. Also some moves are named after the first gymnast to perform them in an international competition, for example the Korbut flip on bars (now a banned move) was named after the famous gymnast Olga Korbut.
