A lot of gymnastics move names are just saying what the gymnast is doing. For example, a "back tuck" (basically a back flip) is called such because you are doing a backwards flip in a tucked position.

Also some moves are named after the first gymnast to perform them in an international competition, for example the Korbut flip on bars (now a banned move) was named after the famous gymnast Olga Korbut.
