I have experience with shin splits, the best thing to do is take little dixie cups and fill them with water and then freeze them. Once theyre frozen peel off the cup a layer at a time as you rub the ice on your shins. Do it after every workout.
Your injury definitely needs to be treated by a doctor. If you have split your shin open, you will need to be evaluated to see if you need stitches. If the injury goes untreated, you could experience infection that could be life threatening.
Put one leg on a chair and then slide into your splits. Hold it there for 15 minutes and ta-da!
Either the surface you're running on or the sole of your shoe will cause the muscle to seperate from the bone. The only sure fix is rest and ice compressed against the shin. Also invest in some insoles that match the natural arch of your foot.
You just keep on practicing. If you want to try something else ask a person to push you down, or stretch before you do splits.
I think that skirts are better because your more free to do like splits and flips.
