Yes, sports tampons work as well as any other tampons for swimming - tampons are essentially all the same: absorbent wads of cotton or rayon, the design offers very little additional protection. A swimmer would be better off considering menstrual cups as unlike tampons cups can be worn even when flow is light or before menstruation to be prepared, cups also don't leak or increase cramps as tampons can. You can use any internal menstrual product to swim on your period.

Why do you need a tampon?
You don't need a tampon, even if you are a menstruating woman there are other options and options like menstrual cups are better than tampons so make them even less necessary. Some woman may prefer tampons because they're active like dancers or swimmers, if they don't know about cups they may feel tampons are needed as they can't use pads for there activities. Internal options like tampons are needed for things like swimming as pads can't be worn in the water.
Why does synchronized swimming stink?
Synchronized swimming does not stink! It is a great sport and has many dedicated swimmers. It is a very difficult sport and many people practice for hours every day. To be elite take slots of hard work and if you ask anyone who has competed at this level they will tell you how hard they have to train and how difficult it is. Having done synchronized swimming myself I know it is a great sport and its time that people recognize it for the sport that it is.
