But about 6 months later, the Special Rules Committee reversed themselves regarding the Babe and took away the home run. So Babe Ruth has 714 home runs, but for 6 months in 1969, he had 715.

He became so popular for hitting home runs (29 in 1919, the last of the "dead ball" years) that MLB changed to the hard-ball used today to enhance his ability. He, thus, changed the game more than anyone ever, including owner's and executives. Only the inventor of the game (Cartwright) could claim more influence. No one has come close to his pitching record who has hit like him. Simply the finest. Many of his records still stand today.
