He was the greatest Baseball player ever. As a pitcher, "Babe" Ruth was headed for the Hall of Fame when his hitting ability took over. He became so popular for hitting home runs (29 in 1919, the last of the "dead ball" years) that MLB changed to the hard-ball used today to enhance his ability. He, thus, changed the game more than anyone ever, including owner's and executives. Only the inventor of the game (Cartwright) could claim more influence. No one has come close to his pitching record who has hit like him. Simply the finest. Many of his records still stand today.

Babe Ruth's parents were tavern owners. Babe's dad also made lightning rods, a craft handed down to him from his father (Babe's grandfather).

Prior to meeting Babe's mother (Kate Schamberger) George Sr also worked as a horse driver, salesman, streetcar operator, and bartender.
