russian you are and i am too
While Lenin was initially critical of both Trotsky and Stalin, toward the end he began to see Stalin's true ambitions and strongly favored Trotsky over him. Trotsky, (who was by no means an angle) was ruthless but extremely dedicated to communism and sincerely belived in the cause. Trotsky would probably no do any thing as awful as Stalin did and probably would have entered WWII before stalin. all and all Trotsky's soviet union would probably bear more resembelence to the one envisioned by comrade Lenin.
Joseph Stalin gained more power than any other person after Lenin died. In the last year of Lenin's life, Stalin led Russia along with Lev Kamenev and Grigory Zinoviev. Then Stalin gradually ousted Leon Trotsky, Nikolai Bukharin, Zinoviev and Kamenev from consideration as Lenin's sole successor. In 1929, Stalin became the sole power in the Soviet Union.
Lev Davídovich Bronstein was his real name... León Trotski was his nickname...
Prior to the Bolshevik revolution Lenin put forth the idea that the Russian peasants would play a key role in any revolution. Trotsky, on the other hand believed that the peasants were incapable of any forceful political activity. In Trotsky's vision of the future revolution, the workers would lead and seize political power. As events turned out, neither was correct.
Leon Trotsky led the Petrograd Soviet at the time of the October Revolution in 1917. He also led the Red Army as Commissar of War during the Russian Civil War. He never did lead Russia or the Soviet Union at any time.
Leon Trotsky believed that Stalin was not a true Marxist. He believed that with the death of Lenin, Stalin would use the dictatorship of the proletariat as a mechanism to assert total control of the Soviet Union under his "rule". As Trotsky saw Stalin as a "true" dictator, any handy political & philosophical ideas could be used to obtain & retain full power over the Soviet Union. Trotsky laid down this idea sometime before it became clear that Stalin was a "working man's" Czar. He believed that Stalin's methods would lead to the party organization to substitute itself as the party as a whole. Then the Central Committee would substitute itself for the party organization. Finally a single dictator would substitute a single dictator ( Stalin) for the Central Committee.
Writing in exile, former Soviet leader, Leon Trotsky was against the German-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact of 1939. Trotsky hated fascism, the government of Nazi Germany, and he hated the false socialism of the USSR, a dictatorship of Joseph Stalin. Trotsky believed that based on any token of friendship between these two nations would end any hope of a true socialist state in the USSR.
No, it is an allegory to the Russian Revolution and what occurred with Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky.
Leon Trotsky became a political enemy of Josef Stalin. Stalin's fear of any descent from his policies were tantamount to treason. Stalin believed that if one of the original Bolsheviks, such as a Trotsky, could gather strength, there could be a revolution against Stalin's regime. Therefore Stalin put a price on Trosky's head. Trotsky was murdered in Mexico.
Leon Trotsky was one of the great revolutionary thinkers and leaders of the 20th century. His words and ideas were respected and feared as much as any man's and if you google Trotsky you can find a wealth of information about him. I know of many of his essays but not a book. He has many defenders and detractors also. Go to WSWS dot com and search out his name on that site. You'll find many critiques at that place, both for and against Trotsky. So google first, then go to WSWS.
Leon Trotsky posed a threat to Joseph Stalin's hold on the power in Russia after Lenin's death. Many Bolshevik leaders supported Trotsky's philosophy of "permanent revolution" while others supported Stalin's policy of "socialism in one country." Stalin allied himself with Grigory Zinoviev and Lev Kamenev against Trotsky and eventually had enough people loyal to him to expel Trotsky from the Communist Party. Trotsky continued to criticize Stalin and tried to line up support against Stalin. Stalin knew the only way to completely eliminate Trotsky as a rival would be to get him out of the country entirely, so Trotsky was exiled to Turkey.Trotsky was exiled because of his opposition to Stalin. The excuse Stalin gave for the exile of Trotsky was that he did not go to Lenins funeral-but Stalin idid not invite him to the funeral.
Stalin and Trotsky were among the top leaders of the Bolshevik Party after the Revolution and Civil War. They disliked one another intensely and had conflicting opinions on how to run the country after the revolution. Trotsky favored spreading communism to all countries as Marx and Lenin had envisioned. Stalin felt that they should establish communism firmly in one country first then move from there. Stalin also disliked Trotsky because he was Jewish and had only recently joined the Bolshevik Party. After Lenin died in 1924, the two vied for control of the Communist Party and the country with Stalin winning and expelling Trotsky first from the Communist Party then from the country. In 1940, Trotsky was living in Mexico in exile and Stalin had an undercover agent assassinate him.
