The Mets reached the playoffs 7 times and the World Series 4 times. They won the World Series twice. # 1969: Shocked the Orioles 4 games to 1 to win the World Series, after never before placing better than 9th (in a 10 team league). # 1973: "Ya Gotta Believe" Mets were in last place going into September, then won the division, upset the Reds 3 games to 2 in the League Championship Series, and took a 3 games to 2 lead in the World Series before losing games 6 and 7 in Oakland to the A's. # 1986: Beat the Red Sox 4 games to 3 in the World Series. The Mets won 108 regular season games, but were one strike away from being eliminated in the World Series, before their unprecedented comeback. # 1988: Lost to the League Championship Series to the Dodgers, 4 games to 3, as Cy Young Award winner Orel Hershiser and MVP Kirk Gibson had legendary moments. # 1999: In third place in the Wild Card race, 2 games back with 3 to play, the Mets came back, beat the Reds in a one game playoff for the Wild Card, beat the Diamondbacks on a walk-off tenth inning homer to win the NLDS, and then had some great comebacks against the Braves in the LCS, ultimately losing game 6 on a walk-off walk. # 2000: Won the Wild Card, beat the Giants in the NLDS and the Cardinals in the NLCS, before falling to the Yankees in the Subway Series, 4 games to 1. # 2006: Swept the Dodgers in the NLDS, lost Game 7 of the NLCS to the Cardinals, with Carlos Beltran frozen by an 0-2 curveball with the winning run on first.
