According to discus forums, between 75 feet and 120 feet is the average.
Anything above 135 feet is seen as "excellent".
I am an 8th grade girl who has justs started throwing discus and shotput and just got two personal PR at my meet. For discus I threw 74 feet 9" Is this good or am i below because I was better than everyone by about 20-30 feet so I feel I did good. For shotput I got second the girl who beast me got a good 23 feet 10" while I placed second with another PR of 23 feet 4" Is this good or am I below?
According to Track and Field News, the American high school record in the girls discus is 188 feet 4 inches (57.4 meters). I do not claim to be a track coach but my guess would be that an average throw would be in the 150-160 foot range.
from my experience: 1. depends on the throwers experience 2.level such as varsity or junior varsity 3. in my area average is between 90-110 feet.
AnswerWell I'm a boy and I'm 12 years old and I throw 25.72m [approx 84 feet] so a high school girl probably 35-45m
[Weights of the discus?? What weight was your discus?]
AnswerAs an experienced physical educator, may I suggest the the answer to the throwing events lies in the weight of the impliment referenced. Of even more consequence is the meaning of the word "average".
The average high school girl is not the school's representative in the event.
From my experience, a classroom of 15 or 16 year-old girls throwing [say] a .75kg discus could throw anywhere between 20 feet and 45 or 50 feet. That is assuming the school's age-level representative is not among them.
well that depends. anywhere from 80 feet to 95 feet is great any higher than that and yo should have a record id say.
ACTUALLY, IT IS TRUE THAT 80-95 IS "GREAT" BUT THE QUESTION WAS ABOUT THE AVERAGE.
THE AVERAGE JR HIGH SCHOOL GIRL THROWS THE 1 KG DISCUS (STANDARD SIZE FOR TRACK MEETS) 45-58 FEET. THE AVERAGE HIGH SCHOOL GIRL THROWS 55-66 FEET. I HAVE COACHED DISCUS FOR MANY YEARS, AND AN 80 FOOT THROW IS ALMOST ALWAYS TOP 3 OF 25 COMPETITORS. 95 WOULD ALMOST ALWAYS WIN -- AT THE VARSITY LEVEL.
The average is all based on locale, the school, the coaching staff, and, ultimately, the thrower. But a good Jr. High Throw will be any where from 25' to 40', and sometimes you will come across a phenomena who will hold a record, or set a new one. My best using a 4k (8.8 pounds) is 44 feet 2 inches
I have only been throwing for two years and around my division, the top throw is about 130 ish.
The average throws I see for my meets are about 90-105
95 is probably average. 100-120 is good. 120-135 is great 135+. is getting toward elite
The average is 90-110 feet
