Yes, it has been proven that there is no relation to ankle injuries and height of shoes. A test done in 2004 was the driver of this, but it was never released to the public because companies like Nike and Adidas paid them a large sum to keep there findings away from the news, because of the damage they felt it could do their business. The Kobe IV's have been released by Nike and endorsed by Kobe Bryant. The same thing applies to football, and if you play a skill position, low tops are 100 percent the way to go. Linemen will most likely want a big shoe with heavy studs and lots of material to get their feet in the ground. For recievers and DB's ankle mobility is crucial for changing direction at high speeds. Also, the cleats will weigh far less in a low top form, and provide more vertical support wich is better for you body during back pedals and fly routes. I am a Wide receiver on my team, I use the Nike Super Speed D lows, the 07 versions, and they are great. Any other positions besides skills and linemen, its pretty much your personal choice. Linebackers, Quarterbacks, Ends, Runningbacks, are all based on what you want. So to make it simple, YES, low tops are safe.
football cleats don't have an arch in them. Football cleats have ankel protection, and an arch. but, for soccer you have a low cut ankle support and no arch. its best to invest in the correct cleat for each sport, or you could take the risk of injuring yourself.
first they are called cleats not boots and they dont have friction.
It depends on the turf. But, if it's just grass go with the mids for better footing
for left back it would be low low lying cleats. They are normal boots but with smaller cleats because the bigger the cleats the slower you run because it has less traction. And if the opposing team is about to score you need to help and get there faster than other players.
id prefer Nike vapors because they are light but almost any low-cut cleat is good for a DB including under armor

You can get the shoes at eastbay. I recommend the mids... the low are too uncomfortable. But that's just me.
im a d3 paintball player and i have used all types of cleats. what i have found to be the best is baseball cleats with the hard rubber bottoms, not the metal spikes or plastic spikes. get them in mid not low. but you will easily be able to play outdoor and very well indoor or on turf. but you will not be able to play good on turf with others. also, do not use boots.
