If a musher is looking for speed they'll use mostly mutts who have many different breeds in their lineage and who have acclimated to the cold weather and running super long distances. If they just want to get to the finish line they'll use Huskies and Malamutes. The latter 2 are used more for power than speed, but the mixed breed dogs are bred for speed, power, and ease of training. Most mushers will have a few Huskies and Malamutes on their team to provide an extra "push", but past that an experience Iditarod racer will usually opt for mixed breeds.
The dog most commonly used by mushers in the Iditarod is the Alaskan Husky. The Alaskan Husky is a mixed breed, or mutt, that loves to pull. Alaskan Huskies are a descendant of the original sled dogs, which included domesticated wolves and other wild Dog Breeds.
Breeds like Alaskan malamute, sibarian huskies were specifically bred to pull loads carts on ice in Alaska and sibaria used by local devellers! as the time passed by these dogs as we know today had the strength and power to pull these breeds love to run. thier stamina, hardiness in coldest weathers made them sled dogs now used in races.
Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes are my opinion for the best dogs for the iditarod because that is what these breeds are meant to do. They have a tough, thick coat that will keep them warm in the very cold weather. And they have very strong paws and legs. Things like the iditarod are one of the reasons these dogs are in this world today. This is my opinion but it makes sense to me.
they drink water that is flavored
Horses and dogs are the BEST animal breeds in the ENTIRE world and race of man kind!
some feed their dogs steak and eggs while they eat less things like beans just to keep there dogs healthy to vacuum seal all their food in tough plastic bags.
the lapped cars starts in the front because they are kind lucky dogs in the race. if you were the first car down a lap, and a caution came out, you'd be the luck dog.
Automobile race is a kind of race. Popular automobile races include Indy 500, NASCAR and the Baja 1000 off-road race.
The dogs have thick callous pads and fur on their feet. They don't need booties or such like city dwellers do for their dogs. I suspect that the whole jacket and bootie thing is more about how the city owners feel than how their dogs feel.
Smaller and fanicer dogs
The Pharaoh Hound
puppys because they are dogs
Dolly in the book "The Call of the Wild" by Jack London is a kind and gentle Newfoundland dog that befriends Buck, the main character. She introduces Buck to the domesticated life on Judge Miller's estate before he is kidnapped and taken to be a sled dog in the Alaskan wilderness.
It is a race of over 1,150 miles of the most extreme and beautiful terrain known to man: across mountain ranges, frozen rivers, dense forests, desolate tundra and windswept coastline. To add to the terrain are sub zero temperature, darkness, and blinding snow.
