Dog sled racing is a competitive winter sport where teams of sled dogs pull a sled along a specified course. It requires teamwork between the musher (sled driver) and the dogs to navigate the terrain and reach the finish line. Races can vary in distance and difficulty, with the Iditarod being one of the most famous long-distance dog sled races.
Well a musher (driver of dog sled) scratches like in The Iditarod he/she drops out.
A dog is to a sled as a horse is to a wagon.
A dog sled idiom is a sled that men go on to get pulled by huskies
An Iditarod racer is called a musher. A musher is the proper name of a dog sled driver, no matter if the driver is a professional dog sled racer or an amateur. Dog sled was the fastest method of overland travel for the native tribes in the Arctic regions of Russia, Canada and America. Mushers control their dogs by means of vocal commands. One of the commands used to get the dogs running is the word, "mush," although that command has fallen out of favor in recent years.
The dog that runs in front is known as the lead dog.

All domestic dogs, whether they are sled dogs or teacup poodles, have the same scientific name - Canis lupus familiaris.
That would be the two dogs closest to the sled.
