The longest event for speed skating is the men's 10,000 meters race, which is equivalent to 10 kilometers.
BEcause many people participate in it... Many people make their lives by skating.
Eric Heiden won five speed skating medals, all gold, (500 meters, 1000 meters, 1500 meters, 5000 meters, and 10000 meters) and all at the 1980 Winter Games in Lake Placid.
Winter Olympic sports held indoors are curling, speed skating, short track speed skating, figure skating, and ice hockey.
