At the start of the Iditarod you may have a maximum of 16 dogs and a minimum of 12 dogs; minimum of 6 dogs are required to continue in the race and are mandatory as you cross the finish line. (iditarod.com)
Teams of dogs number from 10 or 12 to 14 or 16. That's not very specific, but there is no set "maximum" for a team. Too many dogs, however, is not a good idea for a variety of reasons. The only requirement is that a minimum of six dogs be in harness when the team crosses the finish line in Nome. There's a ton of information available just a mouse click away.
