You can mount most bindings to K2 skis that are "flat" which do not have the built in metal flanges. Be sure to check the width of the brake so it will fit the width of the ski. For example the 09/10 Apache Xplorers come flat which have a smooth surface to drill and mount your bindings. They also came with integrated bindings that mount onto metal flanges that are built into the skis. You can only use the Marker MX binding with this ski as far as I know. I would call K2 in Washington and ask about the specific Apache ski you are interested in. The phone number is 800-426-1617 .
Good Luck!
Where the binding is mounted is all about personal preference. If you ski terrain park, a center mount could be more your style, where as if you ski all mountain, you may wish to mount farther back. Many skis come with a "recommended" line. You may wish to go from there. If you have further questions, any tech at your local ski shop should be able to answer all of your questions, and mount the bindings for you!
Yes. Most skis do have a wooden core.
any cheap, all mountain skis would suit a beginner nicely.

The plural form for the noun ski, or any noun ending with -ski, is skis (-skis).
take the front binding, turn it 180 degrees and put it on the rear mount, then take the back binding rotate 180 degrees and mount it on the front.... it's very easy because there aren't any special left- or right-footed parts
