To reduce drag and to help you go faster Swim caps are used to reduce drag. Drag is what slows u down when swimming and just a few seconds can determine whether u are first or last. There are different types of swim caps too. Silicone - the type i wear, reduce drag, latex - is said to make you faster than silicone but i dont like them cause they break real easy, and cloth - a big no no it creates a ton of drag. hope this helped, PEACE
I've been a swimmer for as long as I can remember. I can tell you that most swimmers wear two caps for a good reason. I wear two caps for big meets, the first one I put on with my goggles over it, and I put the second cap over the first one and my goggles so that my goggles don't fall off, and it creates less drag. Also, this way the goggles don't tangle and knot my hair.
One reason is that tall swimmers swim a shorte distane on eah lap in a pool. A six inch difference in totalbreah with arms extended means a two foot advantage in a four lap race. Tall swimmers swim a shorter distance!
for swimming there is a meet called Olympic trials to reach that point there are tie standards you must reach. From that point the swimmers swim once in prelims where the top 16 move on to semi finals once the swimmers swim here the Field narrows even more down to 8 swimmers finally the swimmers swim one last race in the finals the top two swimmers in that race go to the Olympics
The 2011-12 NFHS rules define the uniform as "one suit and if worn, cap(s). " This seems pretty obvious that more than one cap is allowed. HOWEVER; I strongly recommend that you do not compete in two caps without prior permission of each meet referee. In our state championship last year, the meet referee did DQ people for two caps. So regardless of the rule, you wouldn't want to be DQ'd because the meet referee has a different interpretation.
There are five baseball caps. Swimmers don't use the butterfly because they can generally swim front crawl faster. The butterfly stroke is generally the second fastest of the four competitive strikes, but is not as efficient as front crawl or freestyle which is generally considered the fastest stroke. Also in a medley relay each swimmer is required to swim one of four different strokes (back, breast, fly and free), so two swimmers swimming butterfly would result in a disqualification. This would not apply to a freestyle relay.

In a 50m pool, a 100m swim would require 2 laps. Each lap is 50m, so swimming two laps would cover a total distance of 100m. Swimmers would start at one end of the pool, swim to the other end (50m), turn around, and swim back to the starting point (another 50m) to complete the 100m swim.
In "A Tale of Two Cities," the red caps worn by the revolutionaries symbolize their allegiance to the French Revolution. The color red was associated with revolutionary fervor and a desire for change, and the red caps served as a visual marker of their revolutionary ideals.
