For indermediate players (like me,) they like to think longer and look for threats and carry out plans. Those games last about 25 to 1 hour.

For advanced players, they think about 5-10 minutes each move on average so those games last 45 minutes to 2 hours.

For champions, chessmasters and grandmasters, thet might think about 10 to 15 minutes a move. Those games might last 2 hours to 4 hours.

The longest game was between two masters and the game lasted for 269 moves and lasted 20 hours and 15 minutes.

In most places, the game has ten minute quarters, with a 1-2 minute break in between the 1st and 2nd quarter, and the 3rd and 4th. At halftime (between 2nd and 3rd quarter), there is a 5 minute break in which you can have a teamtalk, organise subs, etc.

Like the person before me said, it can be 5 hours but it could also be 20 minutes it has no time length.
