American football is a full contact sport that is inspired from rugby and soccer. It originated in USA in 19th century. It is by far the most followed sport in USA and is also quite popular in neighboring countries Canada and Mexico. It is also played in European countries like Switzerland and Germany . It is also followed by many people in Japan.
No one really knows exact numbers on the percentage of Americans that have played the sport. Between 40-45 percent of American teens play youth baseball though.
